About my work
I’m a “detail” person. I work with imagery of tiny and overlooked objects in the environment: weeds, lichen, patterns in ice and rock, on parking lots and in gutters. Beauty is everywhere if we slow down and suspend our judgment long enough to see it!
The patterns and textures in these images inspire me and compel me to respond through touch, with thread and beads, stitching and drawing. By changing the scale and framing of the images and adding surface adornment, these mundane objects are transformed. They become beautiful, elegant, sparkling with light and color.
The beads and stitching create textures and patterns of their own, focusing the viewer’s eye on these mundane objects and, in turn, transforming the way the viewer sees their own mundane world. My work encourages close viewing and contemplation of surface and image—in other words, slowing down, paying attention, and appreciating what’s right under our noses.
